"Life begins at forty. Until then, you are just doing research".

Carl Jung

Frequently asked questions:

Counselling is a supportive and confidential process where you can openly share your thoughts and emotions with a qualified professional. It helps you gain insight into your challenges, develop practical strategies for coping, and improve your overall psychological and emotional well-being. Through counselling, you can enhance your self-awareness, build resilience, and foster healthier relationships. It empowers you to navigate life’s obstacles with clarity and confidence, set and achieve personal goals, and guides you toward personal growth and a more fulfilling life.

Counsellors help clients to manage the symptoms of psychological and emotional distress through support, guidance, and techniques to promote harmony and well-being, while psychologists focus on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.

In a counselling session, you'll have a safe and confidential space to discuss your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. The counsellor will listen actively, offer support, and guide you in exploring challenges, identifying goals, and developing strategies for growth and healing. Sessions are tailored to your needs and may involve techniques to improve coping skills, manage emotions, or gain new perspectives. Ultimately, the aim is to empower you to navigate life with greater clarity and confidence.

Counselling is a collaborative process, and your active participation is key to its success!

Here's what we ask of you during our sessions:

  • Approach sessions with honesty and openness, sharing your thoughts and feelings to the best of your ability.
  • Be open to the experience and be willing to embrace your journey ahead.
  • Commit to attending sessions regularly and making your mental health a priority.
  • Be willing to explore new perspectives and engage in any exercises or techniques we may discuss.
  • Respect us, the boundaries and the confidentiality of the therapeutic space.
  • Ask questions or raise concerns if something feels unclear or uncomfortable.

The number of counselling sessions you need depends on your goals and individual circumstances. Some people may find clarity and relief after just a few sessions, while others might benefit from ongoing support over a longer period of time. During your first sessions, we can discuss your needs and create a plan that is tailored to your needs.

Counselling is right for you if you're experiencing psychological or emotional distress, navigating life challenges, or seeking personal growth. It provides a safe, supportive space to explore your feelings, develop coping strategies, and gain clarity. If you're unsure if it is right for you, starting with an introductory session can help you determine if counselling aligns with your needs. Introductory sessions are free at Flourish Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Feeling nervous about engaging in counselling is completely normal, and it shows how deeply you care. It’s a big step toward improving your well-being and opening yourself to dealing with difficult emotions. Remember, counselling is a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where your feelings and experiences are respected and valued. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin; simply showing up and being open is enough.

We offer counselling sessions Monday through Friday, with some availability on weekends. We also offer flexibility for those who work late. Drop us a line and we will work something out for you.

Yes! We offer Zoom videoconferencing, phone and face-to-face appointments to all of our clients if this is your preference.

At this stage, the Australian Government do not allow counsellors or psychotherapists to bulk-bill, however, there are ongoing discussions happening to change this in January 2026. We will inform all of our clients if and when this occurs.

Sessions can be booked online here, or we can book one on your behalf.

Give us a call, and we will gladly assist 😊

Flourish Counselling & Psychotherapy has an open-door policy, and you do not currently need a referral for counselling sessions, but we do take referrals from GPs, allied health, support coordinators and other agencies.
