The Heart Behind Flourish Counselling & Psychosocial Support

Kerynn Fotiou — Registered Counsellor, Psychosocial Recovery Coach & Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (pictured with Dr Bessel van der Kolk, author of “The Body Keeps the Score”).

Hello there, my name is Kerynn, and I am a registered, trauma‑informed counsellor in Echuca providing specialised, person-centred and neuro‑affirming support for individuals, families and children.

Flourish Counselling & Psychosocial Support was a hope and a dream I carried long before it had a name. It grew from a deep desire to create a space where people feel genuinely safe, understood and supported. A space where lived experience, neuroscience and trauma‑informed practice come together to honour the whole person. What began as a quiet vision has become a practice grounded in dignity, compassion and connection.

Flourish was created for anyone moving through the world with tenderness, courage and complexity. For those navigating challenges that are often unseen, misunderstood and carried alone.

My work is shaped by both lived and clinical experience, grounded in dignity, safety and genuine human connection. As a parent of two neurodiverse children, I understand the developmental, emotional and systemic challenges families often navigate, and how exhausting that journey can feel. This lived experience meets clinical expertise that enriches my practice and allows me to meet each client with curiosity, compassion and deep respect for the complexities they move through.

I hold a strong belief that every protective response carries wisdom, and that beneath each one lies an unmet need longing to be understood. Meaningful change can only unfold when safety is genuinely felt and creating that safety is at the heart of my work.

One of the most significant moments in my professional journey was meeting Dr Bessel van der Kolk at his Melbourne workshop, The Body Keeps the Score. His teachings have profoundly shaped my understanding of trauma, the nervous system, neurological pathways and the ways our early environments influence how we think, feel, process information and connect with the world.

Neuroscience remains one of my favourite areas of study, and learning directly from him was both an honour and a deeply affirming experience. His work continues to guide the way I support individuals and families through counselling, psychosocial recovery and early intervention.

My practice integrates trauma‑informed counselling, neuroscience‑based trauma support, psychosocial recovery, early childhood intervention and NDIS capacity‑building supports. I bring a calm, steady and authentic presence to the spaces I hold, ensuring each person feels seen, heard and truly witnessed.

Our Values

Grounded in Inclusion, Acceptance and Equality for all!

Inclusion means every client is welcomed exactly as they are — without needing to mask, minimise or justify their existence. It means recognising the richness of neurodivergence, cultural identity and lived experience, and creating a space where difference is not only acknowledged but honoured.

Acceptance is the foundation of emotional safety. It is the quiet assurance that your story will be held without judgment, that your protective responses will be understood in context, and that you will never be pathologised for the ways you have learned to survive. Here, you are seen.

Equality is the lens through which I challenge systemic harm. It guides my advocacy, shapes my ethics and informs my commitment to naming power imbalances, resisting minimisation and ensuring that every client, regardless of background, identity or diagnosis, is treated fairly, with dignity, and with respect.

These values are woven into every session and form the heartbeat of Flourish Counselling & Psychosocial Support in Echuca.

Our open‑door policy welcomes LGBTQA+ individuals, neurodivergent clients, and people from diverse cultures, communities and backgrounds.

If you’re seeking a counsellor in Echuca who honours these values and provides trauma‑informed, neuro‑affirming support, you’re welcome to reach out and begin your journey with Flourish!
